BNB Chain-based lending platform Venus Protocol has fully restored services following a $27 million phishing exploit. Withdrawals and liquidations resumed at 9:58 PM UTC on September 2, with recovered funds placed under the protocol's protection.
The breach originated from a compromised user wallet (0x56…2008) that approved a malicious transaction, not a protocol vulnerability. Security firm PeckShield confirmed the attack as a targeted phishing scam rather than a systemic exploit.
Venus Protocol implemented emergency measures, temporarily freezing operations to prevent further fund movement. The swift action blocked the attacker's potential exit with stolen assets, demonstrating the protocol's crisis response capabilities.
